This half-day professional development retreat, featuring Sherry Cook Stanforth at Columbia Tusculum’s historical Carnegie Center, offers teachers and community program leaders a creative escape. We will explore Cincinnati’s unique territory in the Ohio River Watershed, flowing with artistic inspiration, Urban Appalachian culture and history, and ecological surprises. We will practice a range of skills (field observation, personal meditation, narrative interpretation, and arts-based invention) to design unique, easy-to-implement classroom and collaborative community projects highlighting the value of creative processes and storytelling techniques. These include:
- urban history hiking excursion
- local forager & cultural tasting table
- guided (creative writing/visual arts) exercises and prompts
- interdisciplinary connections
- demonstrations and conversations with rising young teaching artists
A CEU certificate can be provided after the program. You may attend this program and the Summer Teacher Institute for additional CEUs. For more information, email [email protected]
