Bio

Contra dance is participatory social dance derived from eighteenth-century American dance instructors, primarily based in New England. It is easily learned and involves mainly walking steps. The Cincinnati group meets Mondays at 8:00pm at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center.

The chief relevance for Appalachia is that several Cincinnati Appalachian string bands perform at the contra dance as their primary or only performing venue. Some musicians are loyal to UACC and support its events, including Barefoot in the Briarpatch, the Full Moon Dance Orchestra, Queen City String Band, and the Sweet Corn String Band.rn
