Bio

I am a multidisciplinary artist and writer currently studying as a MFA-candidate at UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. I am from southern West Virginia and got my BFA at Glenville State University, also in West Virginia. My visual work is concerned with rethinking how we conceptualize of beauty and failure, and both my visual arts and writing practices are concerned with personal experience and identity as an Appalachian lesbian. I think and hope that expression of the personal allows me to speak to others and uplift those who need to be uplifted.

I am from Mingo County, West Virginia, and attended Glenville State University in Gilmer County, WV for 3 years to acquire my BFA. Over the course of my life and education, my perception of my region has changed tremendously, and identity as an Appalachian person has become extremely important to how I think about myself as a person and a creative. As a lesbian, I think there is much pressure to de-identify with Appalachia, but I work in my personal life and creative practices to emphasize Appalachian identity as respectable and beautiful.
