The Queen City String Band plays instrumental old-time music and has been together in various forms since 1982. Our chief venue is the Cincinnati contra dance where we are regularly scheduled a half-dozen times a year. The band features John Bealle on fiddle, Eloise Clark on banjo, Jim Johnson on guitar, and Chris Hass on bass.
John hails from central Alabama just at the point where the mountains recede. He embraced Appalachian identity after discovering old-time music as a teenager. Eloise is the daughter of an Appalachian expat who brought profound joy to her mom as the sole family connection to their roots. Jim was raised in rural Indiana and has roots in western Tennessee. Chris is a doctor who spent his entire medical career in Whitesburg, Kentucky, and Georgetown, Ohio.
